Perfectionist… or procrastinator?

hand writing Perfectionist... or procrastinator?Do you wait until you are 100% finished with any task before you start a new one? Do you need to cross all your t’s and dot all your i’s before a project is “finished?”

It may feel like you are contributing to a great end result, but if you are constantly waiting, paralyzed by indecision, you may actually be suffering from one of the most common forms of procrastination.

If you wait everything is perfect, you’ll often end up waiting forever.

The Link Between Showing Up Early, Working Late and Efficiency

One of the Most Common Traits of Successful Entrepreneurs

Last weekend, I attended the DigitalMarketer 2012 Traffic and Conversion Summit in the awesome town of Austin.

A surprise guest was Bill Glazer. Now, if you don’t know who he is, he’s a hero in the online marketing community, both for his incredible copywriting skills and his keen business sense.

However, the real reason people love Bill Glazer is due to the fact that he’s shown so many entrepreneurs how to create a multi-million dollar business. His specialty is taking companies with potential, and advising them how to grow to the next level.

One of his presentations was “8 of the Most Common Traits of the Most Successful Entrepreneurs.” Now, I don’t want to rip him off, so I can’t share all of them, but I just had to share one.

I chose this one because it’s not something you hear a lot of people talking about, yet Bill said this is one of the most important points as far as succeeding in business, and I’m inclined to agree with him.

One of the Most Common Traits of Successful Entrepreneurs

  1. They Share – They are willing to share their successes with other people. You can’t give away good, because it will always come back to you. Sharing is the key to masterminding effectively (a mastermind is a meetup where people with similar business problems get together and share their experiences to creatively come up with new and better solutions).

“In order to have good friends, you need to be a good friend.”
-Bill Glazer

The truth is, you can’t figure out everything yourself, and even if you could, you’ll have a bigger advantage if you play up on your strengths and use the knowledge of others to help you solve problems you have no idea about.

One of the coolest things about being human is we can talk to each other. Why not use mutual experience and sharing to help build up everyone?

Turn a mistake or problem into free press for your website

Recently, a different website that I own was shut down for almost two weeks when the hosting company that I use accidentally shut down my hosting account (I meant to shut down a different one).

I didn’t notice for almost two weeks (I don’t check that website nearly as often as this one).

When I realized what had happened, I was angry, fuming even, both at myself and at the hosting company.

They put my website back up right away when I contacted them and gave me a credit for their mistake, but I was incredibly worried about the long term effect on the traffic I receive to that website…

7 Biggest Networking Mistakes (at the 2012 Traffic Summit in Austin)

I’ve realized that the only thing worse than not networking is networking in a way that will get you remembered in a negative light.

Last weekend, I went through three days of intense, brain-melting training on online marketing and and internet-related businesses at the 2012 Traffic and Conversion Summit in Austin.

I just recently started going to these conferences (by the way, if you want to learn the insider, ninja tricks about your favorite topic, I highly recommend getting yourself to related training conferences).

As you can probably imagine, there’s tons of networking going on when you have 600+ hardcore internet marketers all in a room together.

Now, I’m a total beginner to networking…trans 7 Biggest Networking Mistakes (at the 2012 Traffic Summit in Austin) I knew I needed some extra networking preparation if I wanted to make the most of the trip. So, before I arrived in Austin, I spent several weeks picking the brain of everyone I know who kicks butt at networking.

They all told me about the basic networking rules, Continue reading

Why it’s good when friends break small promises

In Faux Friendship, a scathing account of the history of friendship as it has lead up to Facebook, William Deresiewicz said, “Far from being ordinary and universal, friendships, for the ancients, was rare, precious, and hard-won.”

I guess I think about friendship like the ancient Greeks.

In fact, I actually love when ‘friends’ break small promises to me.

Not because I like broken promises, no one does.

It’s because this lets me know immediately Continue reading

Locus of control: Choose the life you want

According to wikipedia, ”Locus of control is a theory in personality psychology referring to the extent to which individuals believe that they can control events that affect them.”

Where is your locus of control? In your life, do changes come from within, or do they come as a result of things that happen AROUND you?

The truth is, if you want to be able to live a life of your choosing, you need to shift your locus of control inwards.

The best way to do this is to remain focused Continue reading
